Jogja –
Lecturer at the Indonesian Islamic University (UII) Jogja, Ahmad Munasir Rafie Pratama (AMRP) had caused a stir because he was reported missing in Norway. Later he was found in the United States (US) and until now he has not returned to Indonesia.
Ahmad Rafie was reported missing after participating in a series of global mobility events at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) Norway which had been taking place since February 5 2023. At that time, the team from UII last met Ahmad Rafie on February 11 and 12 2023.
After being traced, it turned out that Ahmad Rafie left for Boston, USA from Istanbul, Türkiye. The process of searching for Rafie also involved the National Police to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) through the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI).
Kadiv Inter-Division of the National Police Inspector General Krishna Murti explained that the UII lecturer was not missing but deliberately changed destinations without informing anyone including his family.
“There is electronic evidence that the person concerned ordered the Istanbul-Boston flight before departing from Jakarta, it was only found after he said it was lost,” said Krishna at the time.
After several weeks of searching for Ahmad Rafie, the Indonesian Consulate General in New York finally found him. The UII lecturer turned out to be in the US.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Consulate General in NY have established direct communication with AMRP. The Indonesian Consul General in NY has also met directly with him,” Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and BHI of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha told reporters, Friday (24/2).
“Currently the AMRP is in the US and thank God it’s safe,” he continued.
Judha said that Ahmad Munasir Rafie had also communicated with his family and UII. At that time, he explained his health condition and asked for a private room.
“AMRP and their families asked for private space… and it is important to respect this request. So all kinds of speculation can be stopped,” he added.
With the discovery of Rafie, the handling of this case is declared complete. Six months later, it turned out that Ahmad Rafie had not yet returned to Indonesia. The UII campus is currently discussing sanctions for Rafie.
“Yes (not yet home). Yes, that’s why if you ask update, not available update the answer,” said Fathul when met by journalists at UGM, Sleman, DIY, Friday (4/8).
