Indonesian Embassy in Beijing Encourages Voter Registration for 2024 Elections During Eid al-Fitr Celebration

The PPLN Beijing, Indonesia’s General Elections Overseas Voting Committee in Beijing, recently celebrated Eid al-Adha with the Indonesian community in China. Amidst the festive atmosphere, the PPLN Beijing also took the opportunity to socialize the 2024 elections and encourage eligible voters to register and exercise their right to vote. This event is a testament to the PPLN Beijing’s commitment to ensuring that Indonesian citizens living overseas have easy access to participate in the democratic process of their home country. During this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebration, the Indonesian Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) in Beijing, China, provided information regarding registration for the 2024 General Elections (Pemilu). The head of Beijing PPLN M. Adanan Purba encouraged Indonesian citizens (WNIs) residing in China to register themselves immediately to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections.

It was a festive occasion as the Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun hosted a friendly gathering event with WNIs at the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing. The ambassador spoke to Indonesian students and citizens in Beijing, addressing them as a family and encouraging them to celebrate the day together that will purify their hearts.

The event was held in the embassy’s courtyard after Eid al-Fitr prayers. The embassy served several Indonesian traditional dishes that catered to guests’ preference, such as lontong, opor ayam, rendang, empek-empek, sayur godong, and traditional snacks. According to the head of the event’s committee, Raden Fitri Saptaji, around 300 people attended the event.

This year, for the first time in the past three years, Eid prayers in China were conducted without strict health protocols to handle the pandemic. The mosques in China held Eid prayers on Saturday in accordance with the stipulation of the Chinese Muslim Association (CIA) that the first of Shawwal 1444 Hijriah fell on April 22, 2023.

Indonesian citizens in various countries will have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming 2024 General Elections. Therefore, the dissemination of information regarding voter registration is crucial, as it encourages Indonesian citizens to participate in the democratic process.
