Indonesian Colleagues Think the DKI Jakarta Health Office Has Failed to Promote Vaccine Program for the Elderly

Chronology, Jakarta – Chairman of the National Health Volunteer (Rekan) Indonesia, Agung Nugroho, highlighted the low vaccination rates for the elderly in the DKI Jakarta area. This, according to Agung, is inconsistent with DKI Governor Anies Baswedan who has targeted 10 million vaccinations for DKI Jakarta residents.

For information, the Covid-19 vaccination program will soon enter the second phase following the completion of the first stage of vaccination for health workers. One of the categories included in this second stage is the elderly (elderly).

In DKI Jakarta, from March 19 to March 30, 2021, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also running a Covid-19 vaccination program for the elderly. It is recorded that the vaccinations that have been scheduled have reached 316,589 NIK (Identification Number) for the DKI Jakarta Elderly.

However, of the 316,589 NIK for the elderly in DKI Jakarta, according to data from the Jakarta Health Office (Dinkes), the level of participation in the Covid-19 vaccination is still low.

During the two days of vaccination that was recorded in One Data Care Care and Pcare on March 19, 2021, out of the scheduled 34,074 elderly NIKs, only 8,809 elderly had been vaccinated or only 25 percent of the scheduled elderly. Meanwhile, 75 percent are reluctant to be vaccinated.

Whereas on March 20, 2021 it was even lower. Of the 5,200 elderly who have been scheduled, only 33 have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

The Covid-19 vaccine Pcare application itself is part of the information system for the Covid-19 vaccination data. Pcare supports the process of registering vaccine target recipients, screening health status, and recording and reporting the results of Covid-19 vaccination services.

Agung assessed that the low interest in the elderly to participate in vaccinations is due to the lack of socialization of vaccinations to residents. In this case, the DKI Health Office (Dinkes) has failed in its efforts to promote health related to vaccines and the implementation of vaccinations for the elderly.

“So it’s not the reason the health facilities are not close to the domicile of the elderly. It is also not that the allocation of vaccination in each health facility has not been optimally utilized. That’s just the reason for justification, “said Agung through a written statement, Monday (22/3/2021).

According to Agung, DKI Jakarta, which has an area of 661.5 km² with adequate road facilities and a variety of vehicles, makes mileage not an obstacle.

“No matter how far apart, if the awareness and understanding of the people of DKI Jakarta is clear and clear regarding the importance and usefulness of vaccines, residents will definitely visit them with joy. So the weak ones are the socialization, “said Agung.

Agung explained, the failure of the DKI Jakarta Health Office in disseminating the importance of Covid-19 vaccination can be seen in its socialization pattern which still uses the “bamboo pokrol” method, namely by inviting only RT heads to socialize Covid-19 vaccination for the elderly.

“And that’s only oral, without being provided with leaflets or leaflets that can be distributed by the RT head to the residents,” said Agung.

Seeing this condition, Agung also questioned the role of the Head of the DKI Jakarta Health Office in relation to not disseminating information on the importance of Covid-19 vaccination.

“So it is clear that the success or failure of the Covid-19 vaccination depends on the socialization,” concluded Agung.
