Indonesia managed to become the champion AFF U-16 Cup 2022 after beating Vietnam 1-0 in the 2022 AFF U-16 Cup final which was held at Maguwoharjo Stadium, Sleman, Friday (12/8) night.
The match was tough from the start. Both teams are equally difficult to dismantle the opponent’s defense.
Indonesia just got the best chance through M Riski Afrisal’s free kick in the 28th minute. However, his shot was still on target Vietnam goalkeeper Pham Dinh Hai.

In the 40th minute, Arkhan Kaka had a chance in front of the Vietnam goal but the opportunity could not be maximized after he was guarded by two Vietnamese players.
In the 42nd minute, it was Vietnam’s turn to threaten the Indonesian goal through a Le Dinh Long Vu flick. However, Le Dinh Long Vu’s flick still led right into the arms of Indonesian goalkeeper Andrika Fathir Rachman.
In the 44th minute Vietnam again threatened the Indonesian goal through Phan Thanh Duc Thien’s hard kick from outside the penalty box. But his shot was still slightly off the right side of the Indonesian goal.
At the end of the first half, Indonesia managed to lead 1-0 through a beautiful goal from Muhammad Kafiatur Rizky.
Until the first half ended, no additional goals were scored. The first half ended 1-0 for Indonesia’s advantage.
At the beginning of the second half or 52 minutes, Indonesia got a golden opportunity in front of the Vietnam goal. However, two Indonesian players who were free standing in front of the Vietnam goal were unable to reach Rizdjar Nurviat Subagja’s cross.
In the 70th minute, the match between Indonesia vs Vietnam took place in the pouring rain.
In the 89th minute Vietnam was able to threaten the Indonesian goal through Phan Thanh Duc Thien’s shot. Luckily, Phan Thanh Duc Thien’s shot was still secured by Indonesian goalkeeper Andrika Fathir Rachman.
In the 90+2 minute, Vietnam U-16 coach Nguyen Quoc Tuan received a red card from the Lao referee Xaypaseth Phongsanit for protesting too much.
There was also a commotion between players at the end of the match and the referee finally silenced it, but M Riski Afrisal had to be sent off by the referee for getting a red card.
Until the game ended no additional goals were created. Indonesia was able to win 1-0 over Vietnam and win the 2022 AFF U-16 Cup.
This is the second time Indonesia has won the title after previously being a champion in the 2018 AFF U-16 Cup.
