Indonesian National team had a positive report card when clashed with Turkmenistan. Having lost in the first duel, now Indonesia is dominant in winning.

Indonesia’s first meeting with Turkmenistan took place on March 31, 2004 at the Ashgabat Olympic Stadium. This duel occurred in the 2006 World Cup Qualification.

In that first match, Indonesia lost 1-3. Indonesia’s only goal in this duel was scored by Budi Sudarsono. The three goals for Turkmenistan were scored by Vladimir Bayramov (2 goals) and Begencmuhamed Kuliyew.

On November 17, 2004 it was Indonesia’s turn to host Turkmenistan at the Bung Karno Main Stadium. This time, Indonesia won 3-1 thanks to Ilham Jaya Kesuma’s hat trick.

Long time no see, Indonesia clashed again with Turkmenistan in the 2014 World Cup qualification. This time the meeting took place in the second phase with a home away system.

In the first leg, Indonesia visited Ashgabat on 23 July 2011. The result was a 1-1 draw. Ilham Jaya Kesuma again became a scourge by scoring one goal, which equalized the score.

The second leg took place in Jakarta on 28 July 2011. This time, Turkmenistan was beaten 4-3. Four goals for Indonesia were contributed by Cristian Gonzales (2 goals), Ahmad Nasuha and Muhammad Ridwan.

However, the track record of this meeting cannot be used as a reference. This is because the situation, conditions and dynamics of the two teams for the match at the Bung Tomo Stadium will be different.

Currently, Turkmenistan’s FIFA ranking is better than Indonesia. Turkmenistan is ranked 138th, while the Red and White team is ranked 150th.

The current generation of Turkmenistan is also a collection of players who have qualified for the last eight of the 2022 U-23 Asian Cup. However, their report card at the 2023 CAFA Nations Cup is poor.
