Indonesian National team will play two test matches against Timor Leste on this FIFA Matchday. According to the schedule, the first duel will be played tonight.
The Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Bali will be the venue for the Indonesia vs Timor Leste match in two test matches which will be played on Thursday (27/1) and Sunday (30/1) night WIB.
Timor Leste is a substitute opponent for the Indonesian national team. At first, the Garuda Squad canceled to face Bangladesh because they had not received a complete COVID-19 vaccine injection.
Initially, the Indonesia vs Timor Leste match was planned to take place with the presence of spectators in the stadium. But that plan has changed and the match will now be played behind closed doors.
The Bali Police and the COVID-19 Task Force reasoned that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Bali showed an upward trend. They also do not want to take risks if the match is held with spectators, as previously planned.
“We (PSSI) are aware and understand this problem. PSSI has coordinated with all parties related to this,” said Director of Supporters of PSSI Budiman Dalimunte in a written statement to reporters, Wednesday (26/1/2022).
“This is the best step to protect all players, officials, organizing committee and supporters themselves against Omicron variants,” he added.
Judging from the match record, the Garuda squad has the upper hand over Timor Leste. In fact, from four meetings, only one time, Merah Putih conceded to their opponent.
