Liputan6.com, Jakarta – After the Hybrid Solar Eclipse, there will be another astronomical phenomenon that can be seen from Indonesia, namely the Peak of the Lyrid Meteor Shower.
The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) noted that the peak of the lyrid meteor shower will occur on the eve of Idul Fitri 2023, namely April 22-23, or starting tonight, Saturday (22/4/2023).
Andi Pangerang, Researcher at the BRIN Space Research Center via the Space Science Education website, wrote that this meteor shower is named after the Radian which is located in the Lyra Constellation.
The source of this meteor shower comes from Comet C/1861 G1 (Thatcher). Lyrid has also been active from April 13 to May 1, with a peak around Sunday, April 23, 2023 in the morning.
The Lyrid Meteor Shower can be seen from April 22 at 10:30 p.m. in the Northeast, culminating in the North at 04:00 a.m., and fading in the Northwest as the sun rises.
The intensity in Indonesia also varies between 13 to 16 meteors per hour. The phase of the Moon when the Meteor Shower is visible is the initial crescent phase at 8 percent in the Northern sky and sets at 19:30 in the West.
Andi explained, the Lunar Elongation is 115 degrees, so this Meteor Shower is not affected by the intervention of the Moon’s light.
Quoting BRIN’s official website further, Andi Pangerang also said that the meteor shower did not have a negative impact on society, and did not cause the ozone layer to thin.
