The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) failed to pass a resolution on full membership Palestine at the UN.

Indonesia deeply regrets the failure of the UN Security Council for the umpteenth time to make a resolution regarding Palestine’s full membership in the UN, due to a veto by one of the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council,” read a statement from Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a post on X, Friday (19/4).

Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said progress towards Palestine’s full membership has stalled since the country gained UN observer status in 2012. In fact, Palestine has received full support from most member states. the UN.

“This leaflet once again betrays our shared desire to create long-term peace in the Middle East,” wrote Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Indonesia then reaffirmed its support for full Palestinian membership in the UN. It is hoped that this support will give Palestine a worthy position among other countries.

“And an equal position in the peace process towards a two-state solution,” concluded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The United States vetoed a draft UN Security Council resolution regarding Palestinian efforts to become a full member of the organization.

The leaflet was used when the UN Security Council voted on Thursday (18/4) in the evening of New York, USA. This draft resolution itself was initiated by Algeria as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

The draft resolution received 12 endorsements from a total of 15 UNSC member countries. Two members abstained and one other member, namely the United States, refused.

In order to be adopted, a UNSC resolution needs at least nine votes of support without objection from the five permanent members. The five permanent members include the US, the UK, France, Russia and China.

Many people have predicted that the US will use its veto power. Because the US is a friend of Israel so they will not want to harm the Zionist country.

Full Palestinian membership in the UN effectively means recognizing the state of Palestine. Until now, the US has often blocked or refrained from all kinds of draft resolutions that were damaging to Israel.
