Indonesia qualified for the final Suhandinata Cup or the 2023 Junior Mixed Team Championship after beating Taiwan 3-0 in the semifinals, Saturday (30/9) morning WIB.
In the match which took place at The Podium, Spokane, Washington, Indonesia won the first point through mixed doubles Jonathan Farrell Gosal/Priscila Venus Elsadai who won three games 24-26, 21-19 and 21-16 over Bao Xin Da Gu La Wai/ Chung Chia En.
The Indonesian team then doubled their lead 2-0 over Taiwan through Alwi Farhan’s men’s singles. Alwi won two straight games 21-12 and 21-18 over Ma Cheng Yi.
Indonesia’s progress to the 2023 Suhadinata Cup final was then confirmed by Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari in the women’s singles number. Mutiara beat Peng Yu Wei 21-19, 21-18 to give Indonesia a 3-0 win over Taiwan.
The 3-0 victory over Taiwan also avenged Indonesia’s defeat in the 2022 Suhandinata Cup. At that time Indonesia failed to advance to the semifinals after being defeated by Taiwan 0-3.
In the final match which will take place on Sunday (1/10) morning WIB, Indonesia will face China. In the semifinals, China managed to beat Malaysia 3-0.
China is the most successful team in the history of the Suhadinata Cup, winning 13 times. Meanwhile, Indonesia became champion once in 2019 which took place in Kazan, Russia.
