Indonesia-Qatar Defense and Education Cooperation Discussed by Ministers

Jakarta

Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto received a courtesy call from Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister for Defense Affairs of Qatar HE. Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Attiyah at the Unity in Diversity field of the Ministry of Defense, Central Jakarta. The two discussed education and defense cooperation between Indonesia and Qatar.

“This opportunity is an exchange of knowledge and increased understanding of defense practices and strategies used in other countries,” said Prabowo in his official statement, Sunday (4/6/2023).

The Indonesia-Qatar educational cooperation, he said, would take the form of sending Indonesian officers to participate in the Joint Command and Staff College. Apart from that, during the meeting, Prabowo also appreciated Qatar’s ability to overcome the humanitarian crisis and increase regional stability.

“Qatar’s experience and resources in providing assistance and facilitating the peace process have proven invaluable in strengthening collective collective efforts,” he added.

After the meeting, Prabowo and Khalid came out and exchanged souvenirs. Prabowo handed over a memento of an assault rifle made by PT Pindad SS2-V5 A1, while Khalid handed over a miniature. Then, the meeting ended with a group photo session against the backdrop of the Indonesian flag and Qatar flag.

Previously, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto met with United States Defense Minister Lloyd J Austin III on the sidelines of the 20th International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. The two discussed defense cooperation.

“I think this is a good meeting, and so far we have very good relations with the United States, and we hope to continue this good cooperation,” said Prabowo in his official statement, Saturday (3/6/2023).
