Indonesia has debuted as the official partner country of Hannover Messe 2023 in Germany, one of the world’s largest industrial exhibitions that has been running for over 74 years. The theme for Indonesia’s partnership is “Making Indonesia 4.0,” which aligns with the country’s economic transformation goals through innovation and technology, emphasising the downstream industry and green economy. With abundant natural resources, a young demographic, and a well-maintained economy, Indonesia is seeking to become a major player in the electric vehicle industry. Through the 21 commodities of Indonesia’s downstream road map projected to reach an investment value of US$545.3bn by 2040, the Indonesian President has invited investors from Germany to develop a green economy. Indonesia’s green economy commitment extends to sustainability with a target of generating 23% of energy from new and renewable energy (EBT) sources by 2023 and closing all coal power plants by 2025. To this end, the country will require a minimum of US$1tn of large financing until 2060 to transition affordably to green energy. Meanwhile, Germany will encourage investment among G7 countries to Indonesia, reaching €10bn.
