Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto start Indonesia Open 2022 with positive results. See you Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin (Malaysia) in the first round, the world number six pair won convincingly 21-19, 21-14.
Playing at Istora Senayan, Wednesday (15/6/2022), the Indonesian men’s doubles pair faced stiff resistance from Goh/Nur in the first game. The score was as strong as 4-4, but Goh/Nur were then able to lead 9-6.
Fajar/Rian managed to catch up to 9-9, but Goh/Nur added two points to close the interval with an 11-9 advantage. After the pause, Fajar/Rian tried to get up.
Acquisition of points was again tight, starting from 11-11 to 15-15. From here, Fajar/Rian managed to take the lead 17-15, then 18-16. However, the neighboring country duo also appeared adamant to equalize the score to 18-18.
The intense situation actually awakens Fajar/Rian’s strength. A devious stroke from Fajar entered on the left side of Malysia’s game, making the score 19-18. Another hit from Fajar that split the Malaysian defense added the points to 20-18.
Malaysia had added one point to 19-20, but Fajar again made sure of one point through his hard smash. Indonesia won 21-19 in the first game.
In the second game, the chase for points happened again up to 5-5, but Fajar/Rian slowly managed to leave Goh/Nur. Starting from an additional four consecutive points to 9-5, Fajar / Rian then closed the interval with a score of 11-7.
After the break, Fajar/Rian did not relax the game, even managed to widen the distance to 15-10. An incoming smash from Rian to the right corner of the Malaysian playing field added to the lead to 16-10.
Fajar/Rian’s pace is increasingly unstoppable, and is able to lead up to 20-14. The victory in the second game was achieved thanks to Rian’s one smash which failed to return perfectly, bringing the score to 21-14.
Next in the round of 16 on Thursday (16/6) tomorrow, Fajar/Rian will meet the winner of the duel Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana against Alexander Dunn/Adam Hall (Scotland).
