Indonesia Not Ready to Handle Electric Car Fire Incidents, This Says the Ministry of Transportation

Jakarta

Ministry of Communications (Ministry of Transportation) confirmed that Indonesia is still unable to handle fire cases electric car on the highway. This is because the vehicle is still new and requires in-depth study to understand it.

Head of Public Vehicle Certificate Head of the Directorate of Road Transportation Facilities Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Joko Kusnanto said, while he has not been able to handle cases of electric car fires, his party has reminded them of the importance of prevention.

“So, from a prevention point of view, before the vehicle is used, we will test and certify it. This battery has to go through a testing mechanism, and the testing is related to electricity and the environment,” said Joko when met at Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

“Electrically, for example, if it is charged, there is a shortcut, then if the environment is vibration, it can be muted and actually the battery being tested has a small chance of burning. Because there is a battery management system there, there is a heat sensor, if there is excess heat, it must be turned off ,” he added.

Joko confirmed that to extinguish a burning electric car requires special skills and equipment. This is because a burning electric car cannot be extinguished immediately when splashed with water. In fact, there is a possibility, the blazing fire actually grabbed through the intermediary of water.

“In the event of a fire it becomes a challenge for us as well, because in the event of a fire the energy from the battery is also quite large. To extinguish it requires even greater effort,” he said.

However, his party continues to conduct studies and socialization related to how to extinguish electric cars properly and correctly. He hopes that before the population of electric vehicles becomes dominant, this problem can be resolved soon.

“We are also conducting studies and studies as well as socialization regarding the potential for the fire earlier, as well as the appropriate tools to extinguish it, because the fire from this battery is quite large, yes, but we tend to prevent fires from happening,” he said.
