Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indonesia is a rich “treasure” of natural resources, including mining commodities. Apart from nickel, it turns out that Indonesia’s tin reserves are the number 1 largest in the world or around 17% of the world’s total tin reserves.
The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) revealed that this tin “treasure” could last for the next 22 years.
Head of the Center for Mineral, Coal and Geothermal Resources at the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Hariyanto said that Indonesia has tin resources of 2.5 million tons with reserves reaching 2.24 million tons.
“I said that the tin resources are 2.5 million tons, then reserves are 2.24 million tons,” he explained to CNBC Indonesia on the ‘Mining Zone’ program, quoted on Tuesday (8/8/2023).
He said, tin production has now reached 84 thousand tons per year. Thus, tin reserves can last up to 22 years.
“With a production of around 84 thousand tons, the reserve age is 22 years for tin,” he added.
According to the records of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, RI’s tin reserves are the number 1 largest in the world, contributing 17% of the world’s total tin reserves. As for production, Indonesia is the second largest producer in the world, contributing 24% of world tin production.
