KOMPAS.com – Indonesian badminton legend, Hariyanto Arbi, denounced the treatment of the Red and White squad at All England 2021.
The Indonesian badminton squad was forced to withdraw from All England 2021 on Thursday (18/3/2021) morning WIB following the discovery of the Covid-19 case on one of the passengers on the same flight as Anthony Sinisuka Ginting et al.
They then received an electronic letter informing them that the contingent should carry out independent isolation for 10 days until Tuesday (23/3/2021).
This is in accordance with British government policy which requires passengers to undergo quarantine if they are on an airplane with a person who is positive for Covid-19.

As a result, the status of all Indonesian players lost to WO. In fact, the three representatives who competed in the first round of the All England on Wednesday (17/3/2021) have confirmed tickets to the last 16 phase.
The former men’s singles badminton player, Hariyanto Arbi, also opened his voice about this polemic.
The former champion of All England in 1993 and 1994 considered that the Badminton World Federation (BWF) needed to be responsible for the situation experienced by the Indonesian team.
Unmitigated, Hariyanto Arbi gave BWF a “hard smash” by calling the world badminton organizer not showing a professional attitude.
“I am sad and concerned. They had good preparations, then they lost not because they lost a match. It must have been more painful,” said Hariyanto Arbi in the Rosi program on KOMPAS TV on Thursday (18/3/2021) evening WIB.
“If we look at the long history of All England, this is really tarnishing this year’s championship. BWF needs to be responsible, they are not professional in this matter,” said Hariyanto Arbi added.
According to a figure nicknamed the ‘100 watt smash’, the BWF and the All England committee should continue the health protocols implemented at the 2 Thailand Open tournaments and the BWF World Tour Finals in January 2021.
The three tournaments were held with a bubble system in which participants had to go into quarantine before competing and were not allowed to go other than to hotels and the competition arena.

During three weeks in Thailand, badminton players and team officials were also tested for PCR swabs seven to eight times.
“If indeed the All England committee is not ready to hold a tournament then it should becancel, there is no need to force it, “said Hariyanto Arbi.
“BWF already has experience at the Thaialnd Open. The progress is very good there, they should emulate the Thailand Open which requires players to first quarantine before competing,” he said.
The Indonesian Ambassador to the UK, Desra Percaya, has communicated with the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Southeast Asia Director, Sarah Cooke, on this matter.
To ensure that there is no discrimination, unfair treatment, and a lack of transparency, the Indonesian government provides a number of options.
The first option that is most likely to be carried out is to immediately hold a PCR swab test for Indonesian athletes and team officials.
If the PCR results show positive Covid-19, the government suggests a second option, namely asking the committee to consider temporarily suspending All England 2021.
This is because previously there had been contact between athletes and team officials.
The third option, said Desra continued, if the positive number of Covid-19 experienced by athletes or support teams is massive enough, the government will ask the committee to stop All England 2021.

Responding to the three options, Hariyanto Arbi prefers that All England 2021 be canceled. He called this step a form of justice.
“The option to postpone and cancel it can be. It’s up to BWF whether to do it or not,” he said.
“Hearing the comment of Pak Anton Subowo (President of Badminton Asia), if it is postponed it will be a bit difficult because the arena is rented only until Monday. If I prefer to just stop it.”
“I mean, all the matches are canceled if they can’t be postponed. Just canceled for justice because this is not our team’s fault,” said Hariyanto Arbi.
