SOLO, KOMPAS.TV – The Indonesian badminton team was forced to withdraw from the prestigious All England 2021 tournament by the British Government because they were on a plane with passengers exposed to Covid-19.
Indonesian sports professors also spoke up about the incident and even considered that the chances of Indonesia’s badminton players appearing in other events could be threatened.
“This is because it is very detrimental to us, especially if the All England results are taken into account as a prequalification credit for the Tokyo Olympics,” said Prof. Dr. Djoko Pekik Irianto, M.Kes. AIFO, as Chairman of the Indonesian Sports Professors Association (APKORI) in his written statement, Thursday (18/3/2021).

According to Djoko Pekik, the incident experienced by the Indonesian Badminton Team in All England 2021 is very unfortunate. Because this has caused disappointment not only for the team but for most of the Indonesian people.
“For cases like this, our badminton team should be able to do another PCR test to confirm whether any team members are positive or not exposed to Covid-19. If nothing positive should be allowed to continue to participate in the tournament, “explained the man who was once Deputy III of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora).
Not only that, APKORI, said Djoko Pekik, assessed that the organizers of the All England 2021 should be able to bridge the problem with the British Government.
