Indonesia is without a representative in the mixed doubles semifinals of the 2023 Asia Junior Championships. This was confirmed after Jonathan Farrell Gosal/Priscilla Venus Elsadai failed.
In the match that took place at the Amongrogo Sports Hall, Yogyakarta, Friday (14/7/2023), Jonathan/Priskilla lost two straight games. They lost 13-21 and 14-21 to Zhu Yi Jun/Huang Ke Xin.
Jonathan / Priscilla admitted that they were not ready for the placement of the opponent’s ball. They also made a lot of mistakes due to the pressure of Jun/Xin.
“We have struggled to catch up with the opponent’s points in this match. When the opponent put the ball in front, we were shocked, so it was difficult to restore the position,” Priskila said in a written statement.
“From a technical point of view, the opponent’s game relies on points when we drive. This makes us make a lot of unforced errors,” he continued.
“We played well today. Constant pressure from our opponents made it difficult for us to restore our position under pressure,” Jonathan chimed in.
Stopped in the quarterfinals, Jonathan / Priscilla didn’t want to drag on in failure. They feel they have performed well enough and gained valuable experience.
“During this tournament our performance was quite good. We admit that our opponents have quite good flying hours than us and that makes it difficult for us to get out of their pressure,” said Priskila.
Apart from Jonathan/Priskila, another Indonesian mixed doubles, Adrian Pratama/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu also fell in the quarterfinals.
Adrian/Felisha gave up two straight games against the Chinese pair, Liao Pin Yi/Zhang Jia Han with a score of 20-22, 16-21. As a result the hosts have no more representatives in mixed doubles.
