Indonesia expresses condolences for earthquake what happened in Japan. The Indonesian government hopes that Japan will recover.
“Indonesia is deeply saddened by the earthquake disaster that occurred in Ishikawa Prefecture and around the Hokuriku region in Japan,” read a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as seen on account X, Wednesday (3/1/2024).
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) prays for the Japanese people affected by the earthquake. Indonesia also hopes that Japan will recover.
“Indonesia expresses its solidarity with the people of Japan, and we sincerely hope that all those affected by this natural disaster can recover fully soon,” he said.
Dozens of People Killed
It is known that an earthquake measuring 7.6 SR rocked the Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. This disaster is reported to have claimed dozens of lives and caused damage to buildings.
Reported AFPWednesday (3/1/2024), Japanese news agency Kyodo put the death toll at 57, citing local officials, as rescue teams combed through the rubble.
“Extremely severe damage has been confirmed, including heavy casualties, building collapses and fires,” Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said after a disaster response meeting.
Most of the houses in the coastal city of Suzu collapsed, according to officials cited by Kyodo.
“The situation is very worrying, because about 90 percent of the houses have been completely or almost completely destroyed,” Suzu Mayor Masuhiro Izumiya said at a prefectural government meeting.
Nearly 33 thousand households do not have electricity in the area. Many cities do not have clean water.
