PDI Perjuangan Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said the purchase of defense equipment was in the form of aircraft Mirage 200-5 The former from Qatar was carried out unilaterally by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto. This decision, said Hasto, made President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) shocked.
“Actually, if we checked, Commission I and even the President himself were surprised when Pak Prabowo unilaterally decided to buy used fighter planes from Qatar. Meanwhile, this had been rejected by the previous defense minister, Professor Juwono Sudarsono,” said Hasto at the Winning Volunteer Aspiration House, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Sunday (7/1/2024).
Hasto said Prabowo’s decision regarding this matter included an abuse of authority. Hasto said Prabowo’s move to buy the plane was carried out without proper planning.
“This shows abuse of authority without proper planning,” he said.
Hasto also commented on Prabowo’s statement in the third presidential candidate debate which talked about used planes and ships used by the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir Soekarno, when facing West Irian. From existing data, Soekarno used a lot of new equipment at that time.
“That is also a different context. Many new tools were used by Bung Karno to liberate West Irian, such as equipment from Yogoslavia, some of which were even used to liberate Algeria. Many Islamic nations became independent because of the intervention of Bung Karno’s leadership,” he explained.
Hasto added that Prabowo as Minister of Defense did not really understand the TNI’s defense equipment needs. Hasto also said that Prabowo did not understand the defense of the Bung Karno era which was previously discussed in the debate.
“So Pak Prabowo as Minister of Defense really didn’t understand the posture of our armed forces at that time, including Alutsista, which was the strongest military force in the southern hemisphere,” he said.
“This is what Pak Prabowo should apologize for for not understanding the concept of defense during Bung Karno’s time which was used to liberate West Irian and help Asian and African countries including Algeria, including Pakistan which were trying to break away from British imperialism,” he concluded.
