Indonesia Prioritizes Human Resource Quality to Build a Competitive Workforce in the Digital Era
Jakarta, Indonesia – In a bold move to address the challenges of the digital age, the Indonesian government has made improving the quality of human resources a top priority in its employment sector progress strategy. Minister of Manpower Yassierli emphasized that enhancing workforce quality is essential to creating a competitive labor market in today’s rapidly evolving global economy.
“The challenges facing the Indonesian workforce are low education levels and a lack of digital skills,” Yassierli stated in a recent press release. He highlighted that Indonesia’s human capital index and digital proficiency lag behind other ASEAN countries, underscoring the urgent need for conversion.
To bridge this gap, the government is accelerating efforts to align workforce training with global industry demands. Key areas of focus include green jobs, medical technology, and the digital economy. “Indonesia’s human capital index remains below the ASEAN average. Therefore, we are targeting workforce upskilling and reskilling thru collaboration with educational institutions and industry-based training,” Yassierli explained.
The government’s strategy also emphasizes aligning workforce skills with digital transformation and the green economy. This includes enhancing expertise in artificial intelligence, data analytics, and renewable energy. Vocational training programs are a cornerstone of this initiative, with 3,320 programs available in 2024 alone.
In addition to vocational training, the government is expanding competency certifications tailored to industry needs. These certifications aim to equip the Indonesian workforce with the skills necessary to compete in the global job market.
Yassierli expressed optimism about the future, stating that inclusive policies and cross-sectoral collaboration will enable Indonesia to produce a high-quality workforce capable of addressing global challenges.
