Indonesia Beware of Travelers from 11 Countries Endemic for Monkeypox

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Spokesman Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health) RI Mohammad Syahril said, until now the government will not quarantine foreign travelers (PPLN) who enter Indonesia due to the spread of Monkeypox or monkey pox in a number of countries.

“Currently there is no quarantine, but we are increasing our vigilance,” he said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday (24/5/2022).

He explained that the Ministry of Health cooperated with the Ministry of Agriculture to oversee animal quarantine.

“Also the Port Health Office KKP and of course at this time what we are giving is vigilance or warning to foreign travel actors, both Indonesian citizens and foreigners from non-endemic and endemic countries,” said Syahril.

The 11 endemic countries for Monkeypox disease are as follows: Benin, South Sudan, Ghana, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, and Sierra Leone.

“There are 11 countries that are currently infected. Citizens who come from there to watch out for symptoms,” said the president director of RSPI Sulianti Suroso.
