“Indonesia Beats Vietnam in Dramatic Fashion at 2023 SEA Games Semifinals”

Coach Vietnam U-22 Philippe Troussier admits to being frustrated after his side lost 3-2 in the dying minutes of Indonesian U-22 National Team in the semifinals of the 2023 SEA Games.

Vietnam failed to reach the 2023 SEA Games final after losing dramatically 2-3 to Indonesia in the semifinal match at the Olympic Stadium, Saturday (13/5).

Indonesia U-22 took the lead through I Komang Teguh in the ninth minute. Nguyen Van Tung equalized in the 36th minute.

Garuda Muda regained the lead through Muhammad Ferarri’s touch (53′), Marselino Ferdinan’s shot from outside the penalty box.

Vietnam again equalized after Bagas Kafa’s suicide in the 79th minute. When the match seemed to end in a draw, M Taufany Muslihuddin scored the decisive goal for Indonesia’s victory in the 90 + 6th minute.

Indonesia’s goal in the final minutes was very unfortunate for Vietnam U-22 coach Philippe Troussier. The French coach admitted that he was frustrated with his team’s defeat in such a way.

“That’s why after the game we were disappointed and we were frustrated, because of the fact that we were able to equalize twice, because Indonesia was twice ahead,” said Troussier.

“At that time my team showed a strong character to get up, with an aggressive playing method. But in the end we lost in the last minutes,” Troussier added.

The defeat in the semifinals made Vietnam fail to win the SEA Games gold medal three times in a row. Previously, Vietnam won the SEA Games twice in 2019 and 2021.
