The Head of State said the decision was made so that the domestic supply of cooking oil would be abundant again and the price would be cheap.

“I will continue to monitor and evaluate this policy so that the availability of cooking oil in the country is abundant and affordable,” said Jokowi.

Are the Policies Decided by the Government Right?

Economist for the Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS), Bhima Yudhistira, said that in fact, if only domestic needs were met, the Government would not need to stop exports.

Workers transport oil palm into a jeep at an oil palm plantation in the Bogor area, West Java, Monday (13/9/2021). The price of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) of palm oil since Friday (17/09/2021) at the CPO factory level has increased again to Rp2,670 per kg. Previously, on September 8, 2021, the price of palm oil FFB was IDR 2,590 per kg. one of the factors is the increasing price of palm oil at this time, because many CPO mills have difficulty getting supplies of palm oil raw materials, because currently many oil palm plantations are in the trekking season or stop bearing fruit. Because this will repeat the mistake of stopping suddenly exports of coal commodities in January 2022.

“Will the problem (of fulfilling domestic CPO) be solved? No, it was protested by potential buyers abroad,” said Bhima when contacted by Tribunnews, Sunday (4/24/2022).
