Team championship draw Sudirman Cup 2023 was officially carried out on Saturday (25/3/2023). Indonesia is in Group B.
According to BWF TV, the draw for the mixed team international badminton championship put Merah Putih in seeded 3/4 along with Malaysia.
However, when the draw was made, Indonesia was in Group B with the teams from Thailand, Germany and Canada. Meanwhile, Malaysia is in Group C with Taiwan, India and Australia.
China, the defending champion, has the status as the first seed, on a par with Japan. It’s just that China is in Group A with Denmark, Singapore, Egypt.
Meanwhile, Japan, the runner up of the Sudirman Cup 2021 is in Group D with Korea, France and England.
Sudirman Cup will take place at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center, China, on May 14-21. The event will be attended by 16 participating national teams. Namely China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Denmark, Taiwan, India, Singapore, Germany, France, Canada, UK, Egypt and Australia.
Indonesia last won the championship in 1989, as well as being the first since the team championship was held. After that, for the 16th time the Sudirman Cup has been held, Indonesia has not even been able to win the trophy.
In the 2021 Sudirman Cup, Indonesia was stopped in the quarter-finals after being defeated by Malaysia 2-3.
