Indochina celebrates 40 years: what makes it successful? Nicola Sirkis evokes a track (video)

Indochina celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The group has unveiled a single, entitled “Our Celebrations”, will release two compilations and plans a stadium tour in France in 2021. Nicola Sirkis and oLi dE SaT was on the set of RTL INFO at 1 p.m. this Friday.

A few weeks ago, Nicola Sirkis spoke live in It’s not everyday Sunday to explain why Indochina would not perform at the Roi Baudouin Stadium as part of his Central Tour in 2021. On the set of RTL INFO 1:00 pm, the singer-songwriter recalled the reasons for this choice. “We are going to celebrate our 40th anniversary, we would like it to be an unforgettable celebration for the public we have, which is very large, from very young to our ages. We did not want, as it happened to Olivier and me when we were seen as a One Direction audience, that people remain stranded for 4 hours in a parking lot. We were with our daughters and we got stuck between 10 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. This stadium is not very well managed for the reception of the public whereas it is the public which makes it live. The problem is that it is a pity that there was a controversy because there should have been a consensus on it. And that Brussels finally has a stadium worthy of welcoming everyone.

Not going to Belgium for this tour obviously disappointed Nicola Sirkis, he who is very attached to our country. “Belgium, it was all my childhood until 15 years, we record all our albums here. The last single was recorded here in December. I don’t feel French or Belgian, I feel European. The disappointment was all the stronger for not being able to do that, but we have other things planned in Belgium anyway (…) We installed a whole system of coaches because it’s really important. Anyway, we know that many Belgians come to see us, whether in Paris or elsewhere.

“We will be at the heart of the public”

The name of this tour is “Central Tour” because for the first time in its history, Indochina will perform at the center of the stadiums. “We wanted that, no matter where the audience is, everyone will have the same visibility, says oLi dE SaT, musician and composer. We will be at the heart of the public and there will be no injured parties. And of course, there will be screens to be closer to us.

To celebrate this 40e anniversary, Indochine released “Our Celebrations”, the clip of which was released last night.

After so many years of existence, Nicola Sirkis is proud that the group is still coming “to find melodies that mark“. “This is what is super magic in our life.“On August 28, the first compilation” Singles Collection “(2001-2021). A second part (1981-2001) will appear on November 27. In all the titles that Indochina has released, impossible for Nicola Sirkis to choose only one. But one thing is certain, the group only reveals songs to which the musicians are attached. “We record and publish everything we like. In our concerts, we do everything we like. If we didn’t like it, we wouldn’t be there. That may be why we are still here after 40 years.

“What more?”

As for oLi dE SaT, it was in 1999 that he joined Indochina. For him, it’s important to celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary. “It is important. It was unthinkable not to celebrate it. It is so rare in the French-speaking or even international landscape a group which lasts 40 years. Being more there after 40 years with a last album that hit, a tour that hit, the single which is very well received … what more? And it’s also a bit like my personal birthday of 20 years in the group.”

Founding members of Indochina, only Nicola Sirkis remains today. “The anonymity of Indochina pleases me very well. It suits me because I find that the strength of a group is relentless. A solo artist has always bothered me. I don’t have that ego. After, it’s true that I am the leader and that I am the guardian of the soul of Indochina, but I try to have my ethics, to respect the public, to respect what we started in 1981 and to go until 2021. Afterwards, we will see.”

We told ourselves that we were not at all sure to celebrate our 50 years because I don’t know what life will give us in the next 10 years, so we might as well celebrate our 40 years. Afterwards, I’m not saying that we won’t be celebrating them. If we are still in good health, if we still have the public and if we want to, why not.
