Indochina: “After so many years, still existing is crazy”

To mark this anniversary, the French group brought together, for the very first time, their singles on compilations. The first shutter is outside; the second, “1981-2001”, will be on November 27, 2020. In 2021, it is in stadiums that Indochina and its charismatic singer Nicola Sirkis will celebrate their four decades of existence.

Nicola, why are you releasing your most recent singles compilation first?

It was logical. We have never been so popular, attracted so many people to our concerts, touched so many generations and sold as many records as in the last twenty years.

What was the job of sound engineer Mick Guzauski?

We asked him to work on our songs as if he were renovating a painting. He shouldn’t change their structure or their instrumentals, but just align their dynamics. This guy is amazing, it’s not for nothing that he worked with Daft Punk, Fleetwood Mac and Pharrell Williams.

Listening to all your singles again, did it do anything to you?

I never realized before, because luckily I don’t listen to myself every day, how rich they are in words, in melodies and in energy. This density is perhaps one of the explanations for our longevity.

Forty years of career, what inspires you?

After so many years, to still exist is crazy, even completely irrational. In a recent poll, we are in 2nd place among the most popular artists in France. It’s not bad after 40, isn’t it?

You have planned a stadium tour in 2021.

Yes and it will not come to your place. The Stade de Genève is not suitable for hosting it. It must be said that we will shoot with the largest screen ever built in the world. We will come back to Switzerland later. We are also preparing little things.
