Indigenization is strengthening in restaurants and malls in Saudi Arabia

In Saudi Arabia, more expatriate restaurants, coffee cafes, hypermarkets and malls are becoming more localized. The Labor Department has not announced what percentage of Saudis will be employed. Jobs in the education and legal sectors will also be localized as part of efforts to reduce the unemployment rate in the country

In Saudi Arabia, restaurants are an area where expats run more establishments on their own. Apart from Indians, there are people from different countries in this field. Coffee cafes are also run by expatriates under sponsors. The move is to localize as many jobs as possible in the sector. The Ministry is also examining the proportion of natives available. In addition, malls and hypermarkets will be localized in the rest of the region. The move is part of a drive to create more jobs for Saudis in the private sector. However, the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has stated that only jobs in restaurants and other places will be reserved for locals. More decisions related to this will be made soon. The minister said that with the intensification of indigenization, 28,000 Saudi youth were able to find employment in January alone.

He added that 420,000 Saudi nationals were employed in various sectors during this period last year. Of the 3.48 crore Saudi population, 1.05 crore are expatriates. But the unemployment rate among Saudis is more than 11 percent. This is a high rate. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman aims to reduce it to seven per cent by 2030. Despite the strong nationalization, foreigners are flocking to new projects in Saudi Arabia due to unavailability of Saudis.
