After having observed a decrease in the past weeks, the Regional Health Agency of Nouvelle-Aquitaine is now observing a “plateau phenomenon” during the week of November 30 to December 6. In its weekly update, the ARS also indicates that the incidence rate in the region is on the rise again and is still well above the alert threshold (50/100 000 inhabitants). The previous week, it stood at 81.3 / 100,000 inhabitants against 85.2 / 100,000 inhabitants at the beginning of December.
The most significant increase (+ 11%) concerns those over 75 years old, the incidence rate rising from 146/100 000 to 162.5 / 100 000. The positivity rate of PCR and antigen tests also goes back to the increase in all age groups. It stands at 5.2% against 4.8% seven days ago.
Sharp drop in Charente-Maritime
It is in the departments of Charente (+ 24%), Lot-et-Garonne (+ 23%), Landes (+ 20%), Deux-Sèvres (+ 16%) and Haute-Vienne (+ 13%) that the incidence rate increases the most. On the other hand, a very sharp drop is observed in Charente-Maritime (- 44%). The figures are stable for the other departments.
Regarding contamination, the number of new confirmed cases remains stable with around 5,100 recorded in New Aquitaine between November 30 and December 6, against 4,876 in the last week of November.
Fewer people in intensive care
On the other hand, the trend is downward for hospitalizations: 1,331 people were hospitalized on December 7 (- 206 compared to the previous week), including 175 in intensive care or continuing care (- 23).
Before the end of the year celebrations, ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine recommends limiting contacts the week before reuniting with the family and respecting barrier gestures as much as possible.
