India is again haunted by the Nipah virus, causing deaths, specifically in the Kerala region. On Wednesday (13/9/2023), 706 residents, including 153 Indian health workers, underwent tests to determine the possibility of transmitting the virus.
Meanwhile two deaths were reported on August 30 2023.
“Now that more people have been tested, isolation facilities will be provided,” Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, said in a statement.
He asked people to temporarily avoid public gatherings in Kozhikode district for the next 10 days. This is done to prevent transmission of the virus.
Seeing this condition, epidemiologist Dicky Budiman from Australia’s Griffith University also highlighted the spread of the Nipah virus in India. He said that the spread of the virus was relatively high in Asia.
Apart from India, long before that, Malaysia also reported the spread of Nipah cases which started in pig farms.
“In Indonesia, this means the potential is there, but this is of course relatively difficult in the Indonesian context, because the ability to detect is still quite weak, especially for new infections, because our detection system has not been adequately improved after the pandemic,” he said when contacted. detikcom Thursday (14/9).
Not only is it transmitted through contact with contaminated animals and food, this deadly virus can also spread between humans. The incubation period or appearance of symptoms after exposure can be up to a month or even 45 days.
