India’s Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has announced that the country’s national strategy on robotics policy offers significant opportunities for the manufacturing sector, Industry 4.0, and cyber-physical systems. The aim is for India to become a global “Robotics Hub.” Feedback on the draft national strategy is being sought from startups, manufacturing companies, and stakeholders in the industry 4.0 sector.
India has identified four sectors as strategically important for its leadership in robotics: manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, and national security. To achieve global leadership, the National Strategy on Robotics proposes the establishment of the Robotics Innovation Unit (RIU) under IndiaAI. This initiative, known as the ‘National Robotics Mission,’ aims to enhance India’s prominence in developing and adopting robotics technology.
The draft national strategy serves as a crucial step towards positioning India at the forefront of the global robotics landscape, with transformative impacts expected in manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, and national security sectors.
