India’s Mobile Internet Speed Sets New Record with a Surprising Jump

A report came out the other day that gives a big relief to the central government’s plan to make the whole of India digital villages. A new report by Ookla, a global internet speed test agency, says that India’s internet speed has once again recorded a huge improvement. According to the report, February was the fastest ever recorded in the country. Another big achievement is that India is among the top 70 countries in terms of international internet speed. India ranked 67th in terms of mobile internet speed. This is the first time such a breakthrough has been made.

India was ranked 115th in January last year. The average download speed in India is 30.96 Mbps and the average upload speed is 6.52 Mbps as of the end of February 2023. Meanwhile, India’s fixed broadband has slipped two places to the 82nd position. The average fixed broadband speed in India is 50.87 Mbps download and 49.02 Mbps upload.

UAE tops Ookla’s February 2023 mobile internet speed list The UAE was on the first position in the previous ranking as well. Average download speed in UAE is 179.61 Mbps and average upload speed is 22.90 Mbps. The global average mobile internet download speed is recorded at 39.77 Mbps and upload speed is 10.18 Mbps. The world average fixed broadband speed is 78.62 Mbps download and 34.39 Mbps upload.

According to TRAI data, only Jio network in India provides speed above 20 Mbps. But all other telecom companies provide speed below 20 Mbps. China is ranked 7th in the list of people who use the Internet the most. At the same time last year, China was ranked 9th.

Qatar is second in the list. Internet speed in Qatar is 160.33 Mbps. South Korea (138.46 Mbps), Norway (131.23 Mbps), Denmark (123.66 Mbps), Kuwait (119.79 Mbps) and the Netherlands (114.28 Mbps) are the countries with the fastest internet speeds. Afghanistan has the slowest internet speed. The average internet speed in Afghanistan is 4.04 Mbps per second which ranks 137th.
