The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) shared the unique images on the social network ‘X’, which was once ‘Twitter’, just hours after the spacecraft landed on the moon. The first images were taken when the probe was approaching the surface of the Moon, and the later ones were already on it. Some images also show part of the probe and its shadow.
After the successful landing, India became the fourth country to successfully land a spacecraft on the moon. Before that, it was done by the Soviet Union, the United States and China. Chandrayaan-3 is also the first spacecraft to land near the Moon’s south pole, an area of great interest to scientists.
Astronomers believe that the moon’s shadowy craters contain rocks encased in water ice that could be used by astronauts who will one day work on the moon. The craters could also be used to build telescopes that would allow astronomers to peer further into the universe than ever before.

The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, developed by the Indian Space Research Organization, includes a lander called Vikram, which means “heroism” in Sanskrit, and a probe called Pragyan, which means “wisdom” in Sanskrit. “Chandraayan” means “Ship of the Moon” in Sanskrit.
Pragyan is planned to explore the immediate surroundings and send images back to Earth. The Pragyan mission is expected to last for 14 days.
