The brown fedora worn by actor Harrison Ford in the second installment of the Indiana Jones films has sold for $630,000 at auction, Propstore, a company that sells collectible film and television items, announced Friday.
The hat Ford wore in the 1984 film “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” was expected to fetch between $250,000 and $500,000, according to the item’s online description.
The fedora-style hat comes from the personal collection of the late voice actor Dean Ferrandini, who also wore it when he replaced Ford in the role of Jones, the handsome archaeologist who hates snakes.
Getting the hat to stay in place during filming was a “constant challenge,” the Propstore expert explains in the online description, which required inserting foam pieces to make it fit more snugly.
Created by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company of London, it is made from dark brown rabbit felt.
Other auction items include a white Imperial explorer helmet from the 1983 film “Return of the Jedi,” which sold for $315,000, and a ghost costume from the 1996 film “Scream,” which sold for $270,900.
“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” also starred Kate Capshaw as singer Willie Scott and Ke Huy Quan as Short Round.
