To do with children: “Via Mini, the museum for toddlers”

Since Friday 30 June, the Musée de la Romanité has launched “Via Mini, the toddler museum”, an independent discovery trail for children aged between 3 and 5 and their parents. Who says summer, says vacation. For the youngest, July and August are synonymous with fun and leisure. This is why many Gard and Hérault institutions offer activities to occupy children and relieve their parents. After the resounding success of the visit-promenade “The Mosaic of the Senses”, the Museum of Romanity in Nîmes is expanding its mediation offer for toddlers with the new educational device “Via Mini”. The experience invites parents and children on a journey to the heart of the museum’s collections during which they will stroll at their own pace, guided by step sheets. The right address: At Café Joyeux, inclusiveness on the menu

“Served with the heart”. The inscription displayed at the entrance immediately announces the color. Facing the Halles Laissac in Montpellier, by pushing the doors of the Joyeux café, a serene and warm air emerges. Opened in February, this café-restaurant seems to be an establishment like any other. The only particularity is that the employees, or rather “team members”, at the checkout, in the service or in the kitchen are largely disabled people with Down’s syndrome or autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Sporting an unmistakable yellow frontage, a symbol of joy and celebration, the Joyeux café offers its services from breakfast to afternoon tea and lunch. For the latter, two options are offered, the “Joyful menu” with croque-monsieur or quiche and salad, and the “Chal’heureux” menu with hot dish or salad. All with a dessert and a cold or hot drink, for 15 and 17 euros respectively. Counter service.

This solidarity initiative in the Hérault capital is bearing fruit since the establishment was inaugurated in May in a festive atmosphere and with a shared feeling of success, even by the mayor of Montpellier, Michaël Delafosse, present on site. For the opening of its fourth Joyful café, located on the Champs-Élysées, the brand had the right to a visit from the presidential couple. The Café Joyeux de Montpellier is the first in Occitania and the 14th for the company, which started in Rennes in 2017 and now has 15 establishments as well as more than 120 “happy team members”. excluding tax

There won’t be a single show, but an entire tour called “Gims & Dadju, the Summer Tour”. As their name suggests, the two brothers, sons of Congolese rumba singer Djuna Djanana, will cross the roads of France together this summer. Stopovers are planned in various festivals: Fréjus, Bayonne, Carcassonne and therefore Nîmes in the Arènes. On this occasion, Gims and Dadju will go through their respective discographies, while re-adapting their collaborations on stage: “Par amour”, “My pride”, “Belle” with Slimane or even “10/10” with Alonzo. The hike: The Fenestrettes circuit

Popular with tourists, the village of Saint-Guilhem-le-désert is nonetheless an essential place for hiking enthusiasts. One of the prettiest is undoubtedly the circuit of Les Frenestrettes. A hike passing by the Max Nègre viewpoint, offering a panorama of the Cirque de l’Infernet and allowing a glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea but also the Larzac plateau.

To get there, you have to climb the cliffs of the Bissonne, where hikers can take the paved Fenestrettes path, built in the 18th century to allow the passage of mule drivers. Once up there, a well-deserved break at a place called “Les Fenestrettes”, a medieval building built by the monks of Gellone Abbey, will allow you to quench your thirst. Access to the viewpoint is via the Font-de-Pauller valley. Once it is reached, it is time to go back down to the village to conclude this 10 km loop (Duration: 3h30).

Departure: Hikers car park, Chemin des Hortes, 34150 Saint-Guilhem-le-désert. Faced with the strong summer heat, it is advisable to do this hike in the morning. Information: 04.67.56.41.97.

The place to discover: The Gorges of the Ardèche

Their name suggests that this immense canyon of about thirty kilometers, dug by the Ardèche river, only crosses the department of the same name. But these Gorges represent the limit between the Gard and the Ardèche. If the Vallon-Pont-d’Arc site is by far the most visited in the sector with more than two million visitors each year, the Gard shore is not left out in terms of activities.

Obviously starting with the countless hikes for all levels that can be done all along these often steep gorges. From the “Maladrerie des Templiers” (5h45) to the “Rochers de Castelviel” (3h15), the paths to be followed are as many promises of getaways in the middle of nature. In different places, access to the river allows you to take a relaxing break with your feet in the water, or even a swim for the more adventurous. In addition to strolling in the shade of the trees and taking a dip in the Ardèche, another way to escape the heat that can be relentless is found within the massif itself. Here, a number of galleries and underground rivers run through the territory, with the longest network being the cave of Saint-Marcel, which has more than 50 kilometers of conduits. The others are not to be outdone, such as the Chabot, Huguenots, Ebbou, Deux-Ouvertures, Figuier, Cocalière caves, at the points of Aiguèze, Huchard, aven Marzal or even aven d’Orgnac . Obviously, the Chauvet cave is the most famous of all, but ornate and dating from the Paleolithic era, it is forbidden to visit. Prehistory enthusiasts can however enjoy the cave paintings thanks to its replica, the Chauvet 2 cave.

Finally, for those who prefer to stay away from the bowels of the earth, the medieval town of Aiguèze, ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, offers a very happy haven of peace. And for anyone who is not afraid to cross the river to change departments and even regions, the village of Saint-Martin-d’Ardèche, its waterfront park and its beaches are all calls for idleness.
