Indian Wrestling Federation Banned for Non-Compliance with Election Directive

New Delhi – The International Wrestling Governing Body United World Wrestling (UWW) has banned the Indian Wrestling Federation for not complying with the directive to hold elections and elect a new governing body. With this, the Indian athletes will have to compete as ‘independent’ athletes in the World Wrestling Championship to be held in Serbia next month.

Their medal achievements are not considered as national achievements. But the ban does not threaten China’s participation in the Asian Games. This is because Indian players are participating in the Asian Games under the Indian Olympic Association.

Last April, the Indian Olympic Association appointed an ad-hoc committee to manage the wrestling federation after dismissing the committee chaired by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused in the sexual assault case. The procedures for the committee elections had started from July, but the elections were stayed by various high courts.
