On the scoreboard there are three other Azzurri, who will enter the scene directly in the second round being included among the top seeds.
Jannik Sinner, n.10 of the ranking and seeding, also a great protagonist in the Cup, will have to contend with the Serbian Laslo Djere, n.52 ATP: the 26-year-old from Senta won two comparisons with the 20-year-old from Sesto Pusteria, both played on clay beaten, in 2019 in the round of 16 in Budapest and in 2020 again in the round of 16 in Kitzbuhel. The South Tyrolean is in the eighth of the Norwegian Christian Ruud (# 8).
It will be the French Benjamin Bonzi, n.62 ATP, the first obstacle of Lorenzo Sonego, n.21 in the ranking and seeding, also fresh from the away match with Italdavis in Bratislava: there are no precedents between the 26 year old from Turin and the 25 year old from Numes. For “Sonny” then possible third round with Sinner. The two Azzurri are in fact in the upper part of the draw, as are Fognini and Musetti.
In the end Matteo Berrettinin.6 of the ranking and seeding, on returning after the abdominal problem accused in Acapulco, will have to contend with the winner of the challenge among other French Ugo Humbert, 23 years old from Metz, n.42 ATP, and the Danish Next Gen Holger Rune, n.86 in the world rankings, coming from the qualifications (where Cecchinato, Seppi, Fabbiano and Caruso immediately left the scene).
The 25-year-old from Rome is instead in the lower half of the scoreboard, in the eighth of the Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime (# 9), in the fourth of the German Alexander Zverev (# 3), while after the cancellation of Novak Djokovic (his place in the last row of the scoreboard was taken by the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, as n.33 of the seeding) the main seed in the lower part of the draw became the Russian Andrey Rublev (n.7).
