Air India is on track to place a historic 500-aircraft order worth tens of billions of dollars from Airbus and Boeing, industry sources said on Sunday, as it pursues an ambitious process to revitalize its business under the leadership of conglomerate Tata group.
The sources said the orders include 400 narrow-body aircraft and 100 or more wide-body aircraft, including Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s and 777s.
The sources said so during their conversation on condition of anonymity, as the finishing touches to the huge deal will be put in the next few days.
Airbus and Boeing declined to comment on the matter. The Tata Group has not yet responded to a request for comment.
