Sydney: India had a huge lead of 472 runs in the three-day warm-up match against Australia A. At stumps on the second day, India were 386 for four. Hanuma Vihari (104 off 194 balls) and Rishabh (103 off 73 balls, including six sixes and nine fours) are at the crease with centuries.
In the first innings, the Indian batsmen did not complete 200 runs. Besides the ball and Vihari’s centuries, opener Mayank-Agarwal (61) and Shubhman Gill (65) also scored half-centuries. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for 38. Only opener Prithviraj Shah (three) was flopped.
When the team lost Prithviraj by four runs, it was expected that India would face a batting collapse similar to the first innings. Gill and Mayank broke the 104-run stand for the second wicket. After Gill’s dismissal, Mayank and Vihari put on 53 runs for the second wicket. For Australia A, Mark Stickett took two wickets and Jack Wildermuth and Mitchell Sweepson took one wicket each. India A were bowled out for 194 in the first innings. Australia A10 was all out as India retaliated with the same currency.
Alex Carrey, the captain and wicketkeeper with 32 runs, was the top scorer. Openers Marcus Harrison (26), Nick Madison (19) and Jack Wildermuth (12) struggled.
Openers Joe Burns, Ben McDermott and Sean Abbott were all out for runs before India were bowled out. Mohammad Shami and Navdeep Saini took three wickets each. Jaspreet Bumra took two wickets and Mohammad Siraj took one. India went on to bat second with a first innings lead of 86 runs.
Jaspreet Bumra (55 off 57 balls, including two sixes and six fours) is the only Indian to score a maiden half-century in first-class cricket.
Saved from collapse in the first inning. Boomera hit 50 off 47 with a six. The other scorers were Shubhman Gill (43 off 58 balls with 43 sixes and six fours), Prithviraj Shah (40 off 29 balls) and Mohammad Siraj (22 off 34 balls with 22 fours and two fours).
