India Wins Bronze on First Day of Asian Athletics Championship

BANGKOK ∙ On the first day of the Asian Athletics Championship, India won only one bronze. Abhishek Pal finished third in the men’s 10,000m race. Abhishek completed the race in 29 minutes 33.26 seconds. Japan’s Ren Tazawa (29 minutes 18.44 seconds) won the gold. Abhishek, an Indian Army man, tried hard to take the top spot in the final lap but missed out on the gold by seconds.

Meanwhile, Annu Rani, who was India’s medal hope in women’s javelin throw, was a big disappointment as she finished 4th. Annu’s performance yesterday was 59.10 meters.

Annu Rani (60.22m) was the silver medalist at the 2019 Doha Asian Championships. India’s Lily Das finished 7th in the women’s 1500m race.

Aishwarya Mishra qualified for today’s women’s 400m final while Rajesh Ramesh and Mohammad Ajmal qualified for men’s 400m. In decathlon, Tejaswin Shankar leads on the first day (4124 points).
