India welcomes ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon. India said this move would help bring peace and stability to the West. India said it hoped this would pave the way for easing tensions and creating peace in the region.
“We welcome the ceasefire announced by Israel and Lebanon. We have always called for de-escalation, restraint and a return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy. “We hope that this move will pave the way for peace and stability in the region in general,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
A ceasefire came into effect in Lebanon at 4am on Wednesday. A two-month ceasefire proposed by the US and France came into effect on Tuesday when Israel’s Security Council approved it. No attacks or provocations have been reported by either side since the ceasefire took effect. Lebanese people who left the area as a result of the attack began to return home.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Hezbollah would retaliate if it went against the deal. Although the deal was accepted, Hezbollah said it would not withdraw until the fighting in Gaza stops. Just before the agreement was announced, Israel launched a powerful airstrike in Beirut with the aim of destroying as many Hezbollah bases as possible. 42 people were killed in the incident.
