Providence (Guyana): The second match of the Twenty20 cricket series between India and West Indies will be played today. The match will be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
West Indies lead 1-0 in the five-match Twenty20 series. They won the first match by four runs. The weather is unfavorable for today’s match. Out of the last five Twenty20s played here, two were abandoned due to rain. Batting first, the team made 146, 157 and 163 runs in the three matches respectively. In both the matches, the trailing team won.
India, who played three spinners in Taroba, is preparing for a change. India suffered a setback there because of the absence of a specialist batter. The lack of a batsman overshadowed his 37 off 27 balls to win. The preparations are to replace Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal with Yashaswi Jaiswal. Windies may not change the final XI. They will not be ready for the test as one more win will prove the possibility of the series.
Twenty20 was played here in 2019 between India and West Indies. None of the team that played for India then is playing today. India won the match by seven wickets. Batting first, West Indies scored 146 runs for six wickets. Batting back, India reached the target with five balls to spare. Half-centuries by wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant (65 off 42 balls including four sixes and a four) and captain Virat Kohli (59 off 45 balls) led the team to victory.
Probable Team: India- Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Yashaswi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Thilak Verma, Hardik Pandya (captain), Sanju Samson, Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav/Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshadeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar.
Probable Squad: West Indies- Brandon King, Kyle Myers, Johnson Charles, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hitmir, Rovman Powell (captain), Jason Holder, Romario Sheppard, Aqeel Hussain, Alzari Joseph, Obed McCoy.
With the transition to Twenty20, the West Indies team has returned to its former glory. A two-time Twenty20 World Cup winner, she struck with leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Left-arm spinner Akshar Patel was also not left alone.
There is hope for Tilak Verma, who played his maiden match in Twenty20. Tilak Varma started by hitting consecutive sixes. In 2016, West Indies last won two consecutive T20Is against India.
Romario Sheppard faced only 185 balls in 13 innings and hit 34 sixes and fours. Shepard plays as a number six batsman. Taking into account the last five matches, the star’s strike rate is 205.88. Indian captain Hardik Pandya’s form is a concern. Pandya, who came to the team as a finisher, is trying to get promoted in the batting order. After the Twenty20 series against New Zealand in November, the star’s strike rate dropped to 106.31. The sixer flew just one of the 95 balls faced. Windies opener Kyle Myers averages 20.81 runs. This is the second lowest average among West Indies batsmen.
