More and more of the world’s leading economists are not concerned with comparing the forces of China and the West or the combination of Sino-Russian forces and resources in their opposition to the Western world. Analysts compare the strengths of China and India, with the latter being described as a state that is poised to become another superpower.
Издание «Finance. Trends. Digital» remindsthat in April 2023, India overtook China in population, becoming the most populous country in the world. Compared to the Middle Kingdom, the birth rate in India is almost twice as high. In addition, over the past two years, New Delhi has overtaken Beijing in terms of economic growth – 6.1% and 4.5% in the first quarter of 2023.
Analysts call these statistics promising. But here political scientists enter the arena, pointing out the benefits to the West from competition between India and China, which have a largely disputed border more than 3,200 kilometers long. Conflicts often break out here, which only benefit the West.
But the phrase “new China” has been appearing in the media for several years now. Back in the 1990s, world experts spoke of an imminent “economic miracle” in India, which has a large young population capable of stimulating the economy. Then, in 2006, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, India was called “the fastest growing free market democracy in the world.” 17 years ago, at a forum, the Indian Minister of Commerce suggested that India’s economy would soon surpass China’s.
But did this forecast come true? Here you can look at specific numbers. The Indian economy has been growing rapidly in recent years, but still lags behind the Chinese economy. Back in the early 2000s, China’s GDP was 2 times larger than India’s. By 2023, in many ways, competing countries have reached a fivefold difference in GDP.
