Ahmedabad – External Affairs Minister S. Jayashankar said that India will get permanent membership in the Security Council of the United Nations (UN). He also stated that there is a feeling all over the world that India wants to get this position, so the country will have to work harder for it this time. The United Nations was formed about 80 years ago. China, France, Russia, the UK and the US are five permanent members of its Security Council. At that time there were 50 independent countries in the world. But now the number of countries is 193. But these five countries maintained their control. Asking them to agree to a change is strange. Some are honest while others are doing something behind the scenes. This has been going on for years. But now there is a feeling all over the world that this situation should change and that India should get permanent membership. I see this feeling growing every year. We will surely get it. But nothing can be achieved without hard work” – said Jayashankar.
Jaishankar said that the countries of India, Japan, Germany and Egypt have put forward a proposal before the United Nations and they think it will be beneficial. But we must increase the pressure. There is a feeling in the world that the United Nations is weak. There was a feeling that there was a stalemate in the United Nations when the Ukraine war was going on. Jayashankar said that as this feeling increases, the chances of getting a permanent seat will increase.
