(CNN) – India recorded 4,529 COVID-19-related deaths on Wednesday morning, the highest single-day death toll the country has seen since the start of the pandemic.
The total number of deaths in India due to the virus stands at 283,248.

The number of deaths reported each day in the country has been consistently above 3,000 since April 28.
India recorded 267,334 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the country’s total number of cases to 25.4 million cases. For the third day in a row since the start of the second wave, India has registered fewer than 300,000 cases.
Wednesday’s tally brings the country’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 25,496,330, according to figures released by India’s Ministry of Health.

On April 22, India recorded the largest daily increase in coronavirus cases in the world since the start of the pandemic, with 314,835 new infections. Since then, the country has added more than 300,000 cases each day, breaking its own record, including 414,188 new infections on May 7 alone.
To date, 185.7 million vaccines have been administered in India, with 1,279,896 doses recorded on Tuesday, according to the Health Ministry.
