Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet Minister Prahad Joshi tweeted that “this missile will greatly increase its defense value and strengthen national security to a greater extent” because it can fly more than 5,400 kilometers. The Agni-5 ballistic missile was launched on Wednesday from Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of eastern India’s Odisha state.
The range of the missile allows it to hit major cities in the region.
The “Agni-5” missile was first tested in 2012. The South Asian country has a no-first-use policy of nuclear weapons.
