He noted that India’s top officials had already been warned in early March that a new variant of the coronavirus was spreading rapidly in the country and that the virus outbreak required urgent attention. However, the federal health authorities were unable to respond adequately to this warning, allowing the Delta, or Indian variant, to spread, leading to a catastrophic outbreak of the virus.
Many cities, including the capital Delhi, have begun to ease strict restrictions. However, having just overcome the devastating wave of coronavirus, India is once again alarmed by the potential increase in the number of infections.
