The National Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child has asked the district police for a report on the incident, but the local agents reply that they have not received any reports and that they will only intervene if they discover that the girls were forced to the parade with violence. According to the commissioner, in fact, all the girls’ parents had given their consent and participated in the ritual themselves. “The inhabitants of these areas believe this is a way to secure the benevolence of the gods,” he said. Pointing out: “In cases like these, we can only explain the uselessness of superstition and try to make it clear that nothing is achieved with these practices.”
