India Emerges as Potential Host for 2025 ICC Champions Trophy Amid Pakistan’s Participation Uncertainty

There were reports that if Pakistan pulls out the matches will be held in South Africa.

Mumbai: India have made it clear that they will not go to Pakistan to play next year’s ICC Champions Trophy. BCCI’s position is that they can participate in the tournament in a hybrid model. The ICC informed the Pakistan Cricket Board in writing about this the other day. Pakistan believes that the hybrid model cannot be accepted under any circumstances and should boycott the tournament unless there is a change in India’s position that it will not go to Pakistan.

The big question is where will the tournament be held if Pakistan pulls out? If that happens, there were reports that the games will be held in South Africa. But the reports coming out now say that India is the place for the Champions Trophy. Several national media are reporting that India is the frontrunner to host the tournament if Pakistan pulls out. If that happens, it is not certain whether Pakistan will come for the tournament.

The BCCI had earlier informed the ICC that it would not play in Pakistan and instead the Champions Trophy matches would be played at a neutral venue in Dubai. The BCCI announced its stand after consultation with the central government. The top eight teams in the rankings will take part in the Champions Cup, which will be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9 next year. This time the tournament will be held in ODI format. Last year, India’s matches were shifted to Sri Lanka after India was not ready to play in the Asian Cup held in Pakistan.

Fans had hoped to normalize cricket ties between the two countries when Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dhar met last month. This is the first time since 2015 that the foreign ministers of the two countries will meet in person. Pakistan’s Interior Minister and Cricket Board Chairman Syed Mohsin Naqvi was also present at the meeting.
