India doing all it can to prevent an outbreak

In India, health authorities are trying to stifle the spread of a virus called “Nipah”. According to the information reported on this situation, this virus would have caused the death of a 12-year-old child. The victim was reportedly admitted to Kozhikode hospital which is located in the Indian state of Kerala with symptoms of fever and brain inflammation.

20 people quarantined

According to other information reported by CBS News on this situation, several measures were taken to prevent the spread of “Nipah”. We remember that nearly 200 people who have been in contact with the young boy have been identified. Of these, 20 had close contact with him and were quarantined. Some of these people are watched very closely in the hospital.

The media also report two health workers who came into contact with the young boy are hospitalized after showing symptoms of the viral infection. Also in an effort to limit the risk of the virus spreading, an area within two miles of the boy’s home has been cordoned off. According to the information reported on this virus it is found in some bats.

A coma after 48 hours

But it can mutate in humans. As a consequence, “Nipah” can be the cause of swelling of the brain. It can also cause fever, headache, followed by drowsiness, disorientation and confusion. 48 hours after the onset of signs, the infected subject may enter a coma.
