The DKI Jakarta Health Service (Dinkes) confirmed that there will be at least 11 cases of Mpox or monkey pox in the DKI district throughout 2024. The Mpox cases are spread across several sub-districts of DKI Jakarta.
Acting Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Department of DKI Jakarta Health Service, Dr. Maryati Kasiman, MKKK said that the last case of Mpox was found in June 2024.
“The number of cases in 2024 so far is 11. Nine cases live in Jakarta and 2 cases are outside Jakarta. The last case was found in June 2024,” he said when which detikcom contacted us, Friday (16/8/2024) .

The Mpox cases are spread across 8 sub-districts of DKI Jakarta. Among them are Pasar Minggu, Ciracas, Grogol Petamburan, Jatinegara, Kebon Jeruk, Matraman, Tanah Abang, and Tanjung Priok.
All Mpox cases, which Dr. Maryati followed, were reported to have attacked residents aged 21-50 years.
The first case of Mpox was reported on January 22, 2024. This virus was found in the body of a woman in DKI who also suffers from HIV and STIs. Then on February 7, 2024 it was found again in a woman.
“We continue to raise awareness about Mpox, collaborating with hospitals and all existing health services,” said Dr. Maryati.
WHO declares Mpox a global health emergency
The World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared Mpox a global public health emergency (PHEIC) for the second time in two years.
The PHEIC status is the WHO’s highest level of alert and aims to accelerate research, funding and international public health action and collaboration to tackle the disease.
“It is clear that a coordinated international response is critical to stopping this outbreak and saving lives,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom said in a statement provided by the website WHO official website.
